Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh (D) 9 is once again hosting an end of summer event to help kids and their parents get ready for a new school year.
The 8th annual Back-To-School Block Party will take place on Friday, August 17th at the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center. The party is from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
“I have always found this is a nice way for kids from all over the area to come out and have some late August fun,” says Ward-Pugh. “It gives kids a chance to be with friends before school starts.”
The party will also have a special focus on gun safety this year.
“The recent tragedy involving an accidental shooting in our District has prompted me to stress to children and parents the need for safety in playing with guns,” says Ward-Pugh.
As part of the event, Metro Police will be on hand to talk with kids about gun safety and free gun locks will also be provided to parents. The LMPD will also have it mounted patrol on hand to answer any other safety questions that children might have.
The cost of the block party is free for all children and their parents in the area. Free pizza will be provided by Papa John’s, cookies will be provided by Mother’s Cookies and refreshments will also be provided.
