Councilwoman Marianne Butler (D) 15 has issued the following statement with regard to the placing of a memorial in the Metro Parks to honor all children who are victims of crime.

“Metro Parks, the community and I have been working on a Master Plan for Wyandotte Park for the past 6 months. Numerous meetings have occurred to gain input into the wants and needs of the community in this neighborhood park. Not once in any of those meetings was a memorial mentioned and I am disappointed in Metro Parks and the Administration for not including the public in their plans

A memorial of this magnitude does not belong in a neighborhood park. It deserves a much more public venue and I encourage Metro Parks and the Administration to find a location that is fitting for this memorial for the entire community to see and pay their respect. Child abuse is a community and universal issue. Placing this memorial in a neighborhood park will not give it the exposure it deserves.”
