Several members of the Louisville Metro Council are encouraging residents to take advantage of a free service that will help keep neighborhoods clean and safe.
The Spring Junk Drop off and bulk waste disposal date is set for Sunday, April 20th from 10:00am to 4:00pm at the Outer Loop Landfill. It is a free service offered by Metro Louisville.
“This is a good opportunity to get rid of old appliances in the basement or garage,” says Councilwoman Madonna Flood (D) 24. “You can not beat the price, it’s free.”
Twice a year, the Division of Solid Waste Management offers a free junk drop off service as a way to encourage homeowners and others to use the landfill. In many cases, metal can be salvaged and there is potential for stopping illegal dumping in Metro Louisville.
“Many of us are making great strides in cleaning up our districts,” says Councilman Bob Henderson (D) 14. “When you offer a service like this for free, it might encourage people not to throw their junk and garbage along a roadway or along a creek.”
“In March, we had many groups and citizens organize clean ups for Brightside,” says Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D) 13. “This is really the next step in helping out our neighborhoods get rid of junk.”
For more information about the junk drop off, you can call Metro Call at 311 or 574-5000.
