Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D) 5 is once again inviting everyone to grab a blanket or a lawn chair, a picnic basket and the kids for the return of the “Friday Night Outdoor Family Film Festival.”

“This is a nice way for families to come together, relax in the park and have some fun and the best thing is, it’s free,” says Hamilton.

The District 5 Friday Nights at the Movies returns on August 17th to the Shawnee Park Sports Complex at Southwestern Parkway and Market Street. The Outdoor Family Film Festivals feature first run Hollywood movies for three Friday nights in August.

“As summer winds down and kids get ready to head back to school, we wanted to continue a nice tradition for the family,” says Hamilton.

Here is rundown of the films:

August 17th --“Dreamgirls” with Beyonce, Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Hudson and Jamie Fox.

August 24th – “Pride” starring Terrance Howard and Bernie Mac

August 31st – “In the Pursuit of Happyness” starring Will Smith

It’s free admission and free popcorn for all movie goers. All movies are set to begin at dusk (around 9:00pm). In the event of rain, the movies will be shown at the Shawnee Golf Course Clubhouse on the same dates. The Clubhouse is located at 460 Northwestern Parkway.
