After this Friday, residents of the Shawnee area will notice some new additions to their neighborhood. Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5) will be on hand to see the first of 16 new trash cans installed in the area.

“As we move forward with restoration of the Shawnee Neighborhood, these trash cans will serve as a reminder that a clean community is a healthy community,” says Hamilton. “These trash cans will help us restore pride in these neighborhoods.”

The Shawnee Weed and Seed Neighborhood Restoration Committee funded the trash cans through a $10,000 grant funded to the Shawnee Neighborhood Association on behalf of the proposal submitted by the Reclaiming Our Community (R.O.C.) Block Watch Program.

The trash cans are wrought iron receptacles and display the Shawnee Neighborhood at the top. They are manufactured by a West Louisville business, HSD Ironworks Inc located at 3009 West Broadway.
