Louisville Metro Council President Kramer declares a vacancy for the 13th Metro Council District

Louisville, KY - Metro Council President Kevin Kramer announced that Councilman Ron Weston (District 13) has notified the office of the Metro Council President of his resignation from the Metro Council effective Thursday, February 16, 2006. Mr. Weston’s resignation comes as a result of the certification of the February 14, 2006 special-election results for the vacant 37th Kentucky House seat.

State law, 67C 103 (12), states  “….in the case of a vacancy on the consolidated local government council by reason of death, resignation, or removal, the council by majority vote of the membership of the council shall elect a qualified resident of the council district not later than thirty (30) days after the date the vacancy occurs.

Persons interested in filling the unexpired term of office for District 13 are to submit a letter of interest and resume to the Office of the Metro Council Clerk, Room 108, 601 West Jefferson Street, Louisville, KY  40202.

Ø Letters of interest should include, full name, home address, telephone number or cell phone number if applicable.
Ø Letters of interest should be either hand-delivered or sent via mail.
Ø Letters of interest must be received in the office of the Metro Council Clerk  no later than noon, Friday February 24, 2006.
Ø The person appointed to the position of Metro Council District 13 Councilperson will serve until the expiration of the term of office (December 31, 2006).

Per KRS 67C.103 (6), qualified candidates are: “At least twenty-one (21) years old, a qualified voter, and a resident within the territory of the consolidated local government and the district that he or she seeks to represent for at least one (1) year immediately prior to the person's election.  A council member shall continue to reside within the district from which he or she was elected throughout the term of office.”

Qualified applicants for the position of 13th District Councilperson will be interviewed at a special meeting of the Metro Council at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1st in the Metro Council Chambers (3rd Floor, City Hall). During that meeting each qualified applicant will be given 15 minutes (3 minute opening statements, 10 minute questions and answers and 2 minute closing summary) to explain their interest and credentials for being appointed to the position of Councilperson for Louisville Metro. A special meeting to fill the position of District 13 Metro Councilperson will be announced at the conclusion of the interviews on March 1, 2006.
