After a week of stress, free movies provided this weekend by Metro Council

This weekend, free movies will be available for the family at two Metro Park locations provided by member of Metro Council.

On Friday and Saturday, District 5 will host the return of the Outdoor Family Film Festival will begin with the animated film “Madagascar 2: Escape 2 Africa.”

On Friday night the Movie will be shown in Shawnee Park at Southwestern Parkway and West Market Street at the Softball fields. On Saturday nights in August, the movies will be shown at the Portland Park, 640 North 27th Street behind the Portland Community Center. All movies begin at dusk.

However, in the event of rain on Friday movie will be shown indoors. Due to the recent flooding, this Saturday’s movie will be shown in the Portland Community Center.

The free movies are provided by Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton.

Then on Saturday night, “Free Movie Nights” returns to the Iroquois Amphitheatre with the August showing of the 2009 release “Hotel for Dogs” starring Emma Roberts and Jake T. Austin. The movie begins at dusk.

Free Movies Nights is sponsored by Council Members Marianne Butler (D) 15, Dan Johnson (D-21), Rick Blackwell (D-12), Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) Bob Henderson (D-14) George Unseld (D-6) Jim King (D-10), Jon Ackerson (R-18), Brent Ackerson (D-26), Robin Engel (R-22) Mary C. Woolridge (D-3) and Doug Hawkins (R-25).

The Iroquois Amphitheatre is located at 1080 Amphitheatre Road off New Cut Road.
