Councilmen Bright, Unseld announce back-to-school events

Councilmen Willie Bright and George Unseld today announced two events to help area students prepare for the start of school.

The California Roundtable Back-to School Jam, sponsored by Bright, D-4, and Unseld, D-6, will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday in Victory Park, at the corner of 22nd and Kentucky streets. School supplies will be distributed on a first-come, first served basis, to children accompanied by an adult. As part of the event, the Metro Health Department will offer last minute immunizations from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Fees will be assessed at the time of visit; medical cards, Passport, cash and checks will be accepted. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to receive immunizations, and must have a record of previous shots.

Refreshments will be provided.

In addition, the Louisville Youth Opportunity Network, sponsored by Bright, will hold a back-to-school activity from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday on the second floor of the Spectrum Center, 911 S. Brook Street. Participants will receive free school supplies and refreshments and can register to vote.
