Councilwoman Butler announces 2012 Budget Hearing Schedule beginning on June 2nd

The Budget Committee of the Louisville Metro Council will begin its review of the FY 2011-2012 Operating and Capital Budgets on Thursday, June 2nd with the Department of Public Health and Wellness. The hearing will begin at 3:00pm.

“This budget is going to be a challenging one as Metro Government continues to face a slowly recovering economy,” says Councilwoman Marianne Butler (D-15) who chairs the Committee. “I can assure the public there will be a thorough review of what the Mayor has proposed and how taxpayer dollars will be spent in the coming year.”

The Committee has scheduled several hearings over the coming weeks with the goal of approving a budget on Thursday, June 23rd.

“This Mayor and members of the Metro Council have worked cooperatively to address the many challenges facing our community. I expect this level of cooperation to continue as we review the budget over the coming month“ said Councilman Kelly Downard (R-16) who is Budget Committee Vice-Chair.

The Fischer Administration will give an overview of revenue projects and operations of the government for the coming year on Monday, June 6th. On Friday, June 10th public safety agencies such as Metro Safe, Fire and EMS will appear before the committee. Louisville Metro Police will come before the group on Tuesday, June 14th at 3:00pm.

The public will have a chance to comment on the budget at a special public hearing which will be held on Thursday, June 16th beginning at 5:00pm in Council Chambers. Information on how to sign up for comment will be forth coming.

“This is one of the most important tasks of the Metro Council,’ says Butler. “We have asked agencies to be through in their presentations and make their priorities known for the coming year.”
