Some senior citizens will have a chance to meet a special courier when they receive their Meals on Wheels lunch this coming Wednesday, March 23rd. Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh (D-9) will join elected officials from around the country as part of mayors for Meals/Leader for Lunches Program.

“I am looking forward to this because I know there are many volunteers who serve lunch to a special population of our city every day,” says Ward-Pugh. “Meals on Wheels is a beloved program because of its success in meeting needs in our city.”

The Councilwoman will be working with the Crescent Hill United Ministries Meals on Wheels program. As a volunteer, she will help deliver and may even serve the meals to senior citizens in the area.

Kentucky does have a high ranking of senior citizens who use food assistance programs. Nearly 300,000 take advantage of food service deliveries.

“We know that in America there are more than six million senior citizens facing hunger,” says Ward-Pugh. “That is why a program like Meals on Wheels is so vital to them and to our community and I look forward to working with the volunteers who are the real heroes that make this program so successful.”
