Tuesday September 20, 2011
Mayor Greg Fischer will have an opportunity to discuss the Sherman Minton Bridge situation with President Obama this Thursday when the president visits the Brent Spence Bridge in Cincinnati.
The invitation for Fischer to join Obama came today from the White House.
“I want to take our case directly to the President and I will stress as strongly as possible the need for quick and direct support from the federal government,” Fischer said. “We are working hard to pursue all possible options and to stress our needs as quickly as possible.”
Fischer also plans to discuss the Ohio River Bridges Project and the need to get it under construction as soon as possible.
Fischer met late Monday with Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez. Today, the mayor met with key White House staff including, David Plouffe, Senior Advisor to Obama. Fischer said the invitation to join Obama in Cincinnati came shortly after his meeting with Plouffe.
The event at the Brent Spence Bridge, which connects Northern Kentucky to Cincinnati, is expected to take place about 1 p.m. Thursday.
