Metro Council members Judith Green (D-1), David Tandy (D-4) and Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5) are encouraging residents in West Louisville and Downtown to come out for the next public meeting on the proposed 100 mile Louisville Loop set for Monday, December 13th at 6:30pm.
“As this plan moves forward it is important for everyone to know what is being proposed,” says Hamilton. “Metro Parks needs to hear from as many people as possible as they develop this major recreational Master Plan.”
The public meeting will discuss how to improve the look of the existing section of the 23 mile Loop which includes trails and paths from downtown at Waterfront Park to Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing in Southwestern Jefferson County
The project calls development of new signs, maps and general information for those who use the Loop. This phase of the project is being funded by a $7.9 million federal grant awarded to the city by the Centers for Disease Control..
“Developers and project planners want to make the Louisville Loop as user friendly as possible,” says Tandy. “What designers want to know is what kind of things would be helpful if you or a friend decide to run, walk or bike on the Loop.”
Louisville’s Metro Parks Department is coordinating the Loop project as part of the overall City of Parks program. The federal grant money was given to the city to develop and encourage healthier lifestyle programs and initiatives. Officials believe the Louisville Loop will be a key in that development.
“Safety is also a major concern in this process, we want people to have the Loop available to them but we want to make sure it is an enjoyable experience,” says Green. “I hope everyone will come out and learn more about this project and voice your opinions.”
The meeting will be held at the Shawnee Golf Course Clubhouse, 460 Northwestern Parkway.
