‘Mayor’s Community Conversations’ Will Continue Giving Citizens a Voice in 2004

Monday January 12, 2004

Mayor Jerry Abramson today announced the 2004 schedule for the “Mayor’s Community Conversations,” monthly meetings that last year allowed hundreds of citizens to talk directly with Louisville Metro government leaders and department directors.

“We’re excited that so many people from all parts of our community are using these forums to ask questions, bring concerns and get more involved with their new Louisville Metro government,” Abramson said. “We’ve answered questions and resolved issues ranging from drainage problems to dilapidated houses.”

The Mayor’s Community Conversations rotate to a different area of the community each month. At each session, citizens can talk directly to Mayor Abramson, members of the Metro Council and leaders of metro government agencies and departments.

The next Community Conversations will be held Tuesday January 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the DuPont Manual High School Gym, 120 W. Lee Street. The rest of the meetings are scheduled on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m.at the locations listed below.

Nearly 2,000 citizens brought questions, concerns and suggestions to the ten Community Conversations held following the program’s launch in March 2003. The first several forums of 2003 were held at the regional government centers, but were later moved to neighborhood schools to accommodate more people and to be closer to residents.

Those who can’t attend Community Conversations can still make their voice heard 24/7 by calling MetroCall at 311. MetroCall 311 is the non-emergency number to call when you’ve got a problem, a question or an idea for Louisville Metro government. MetroCall receives about 900 calls daily.

Citizens can also connect with their local government online and on television. The Louisville Metro website at www.loukymetro.org has a wealth of information and MetroTV, on Insight Cable Channel 25, provides coverage of Metro Council meetings, news conferences, special events and features.
