The historic California Neighborhood in West Louisville will kick-start the holiday season with its first ever “Light-up California” event next Saturday, December 3rd starting at 5:30 pm. Sixth District Metro Councilman David James will welcome Santa Claus, city leaders, and neighborhood residents to California Leisure Park (located at the corner of Dixie Highway and West Kentucky Street) for an evening of festivities.
“Light-up California will be a great opportunity for residents of the California Neighborhood to come together for a fun evening in the heart of their community,” said Councilman David James. “I look forward to starting this new tradition with our friends in California on Saturday, December 3rd.”
The evening’s entertainment will include live musical performances by the choir of First Gethsemane Baptist Church and the River City Drum Corps. In addition to holiday tunes, free snacks and refreshments such as cookies and hot cider will be available to all those who attend.
Also, LG&E has partnered with Councilman James by donating 250 energy efficient light bulbs to be given out at the event and throughout the holiday season in an effort to promote safety through increased visibility in the neighborhood. LMPD’s 2nd Division police officers have also agreed to turn their blue lights on during the evening hours in alleys in the neighborhood. “Public safety is the number one responsibility of Metro Government,” said James. “ I’m thankful for LMPD and LG&E’s assistance in keeping our neighborhood safe.”
