In an effort to protect elderly residents, Councilwoman Judith Green is sponsoring and hosting her 2nd Annual Holiday Safety Seminar and Luncheon for the senior citizens in District 1.
“Thu is the time of year when the elderly can fall victim to crime and scam artists,” says Green. “I want to reach as many senior citizens as I can to make sure they know how to protect themselves and have a safe holiday.”
These seminars emphasize safety during the holiday season as well as throughout the year. They are designed to offer holiday tips for protecting the home and the pocketbook as December 25th nears. Guest speakers include Cindy Venable, Office for Aging and Disabled Citizens, as well as Retired Senior Volunteer Program (R.S.V.P.), and Sgt Jerry Thornsberry, Crimes Against Seniors. Officers of the Louisville Metro Police Department have been invited to the seminars to meet, and chat with the residents about safety.
“We plan to visit many residential facilities in District 1 as possible to provide this valuable information,” says Green “I also want to make sure that seniors who live at home have the same access to this information.”
Green’s office has planned two public luncheons for those who may not live in a senior facility. The first is at the Nia Center, Wednesday, Dec. 8, beginning at 12:30 pm for resident in the northern part of the District. They can call 574-1101 to sign up. If they live in the south, they may call Highland Park Baptist Church 447-0055 and sign up to attend the Seminar on Friday, Dec. 10 at 1:00.
“I look forward to meeting everyone and let’s have a safe holiday season,” says Green.
