Metro Parks sponsoring Punt Pass and Kick Competition
Tuesday September 8, 2009
Metro Parks will host a local qualifier for the national Punt Pass and Kick Competition at Louisville Champions Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 26.
Boys and girls will compete in 8-9, 10-11, 12-13 and 14-15 age divisions for the opportunity to go to a regional qualifier and potentially be sponsored by one of the NFL’s 32 teams in the finals later this year. The winners in each age group are determined by the total distance of their punts, passes and kicks, as the name implies. The finals will take place in early 2010 at an NFL playoff game on a date and site to be determined.
“The Punt Pass and Kick Competition has been a popular event across the country for more than four decades, and we’re excited to host the qualifier this year,” said Metro Parks Director Mike Heitz.
The competition is free, and First through Third place ribbons will be awarded for each age division. Participants must show proof of age along with a complete registration form. Forms are available through the Metro Parks Athletic Office, located at the Louisville Tennis Center in Joe Creason Park, or on the day of the event at Champions Park. They can also be found at http://www.louisvilleky.gov/MetroParks/recreation/athletics/.
The competition takes place at the Edith Road section of Champions Park off River Road, east of Waterfront Park. For more information, call 502/456-8173.
In event of inclement weather call the rainout line at 502/458-0142 after 9 a.m. to confirm competition.
Rainout date: Monday, October 5, from 2-5 p.m.
