Cool Off at Metro Parks Summer Pools

Wednesday July 5, 2006

Outdoor pools will remain open through mid-August

It's the peak of the summer and there has never been a better time to unwind at our Metro Parks Summer Pools.  All 11 pools will remain open through mid-August.

“Our summer pools are a great, affordable place for people of all ages to cool off and exercise,” said Mayor Jerry Abramson.  “This year, as part of our Healthy Hometown Movement’s focus on lifelong fitness, we’re opening three pools for extended hours for lap swimming or senior citizen exercise programs.”  More information about the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement can be found online.

Two pools offer new extended lap swimming hours for $2 per person.  Breslin Park’s pool is open for lap swimming on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m.  Watterson Elementary School’s pool offers lap swimming on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m.  Additionally, Sun Valley Park’s pool is now open exclusively for seniors on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon, for $2 per person.

Family Fun Nights
Metro Parks is sponsoring free Family Fun Nights on Saturdays from 5 to 8 p.m. at two outdoor pools. The events include music, games and snacks:

Watterson - July 15
Norton - July 22
Standard pool hours are: Monday to Friday, noon to 6 p.m.; Saturday, noon to 8 p.m.; Sunday, 1 to 6 p.m.; each pool is closed one day a week for maintenance.  Admission is $1.50  for children 17 and under, and $2 for adults 18 and over.  Photo identification is required for anyone age 9 or older; children 8 or under must be accompanied by a guardian with photo identification.  Organized groups can call Metro Parks at (502) 897-9949 for information about group reservation rates.

Pool patrons may bring their own picnic supplies, although large coolers, glass containers and alcoholic beverages are not permitted.  Metro Parks reserves the right to inspect small coolers.  To provide a healthy swimming environment, all pools are smoke-free.
