Free Diabetes Classes Available

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – (December 28, 2006) Individuals interested in learning about and managing diabetes are invited to attend a series of four free classes being offered by the Louisville Metro Health Department beginning Thursday, January 11, at the Southwest Regional Library, 10375 Dixie Highway.
Classes are free and attendance at the entire series of four classes is encouraged. All classes begin at 1:00 p.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Phone 574-6663 for reservations or for more information. Class size is limited so please phone to make a reservation. The class schedule is as follows:
Class 1:Overview of Diabetes, January 11
Types of Diabetes,
High and Low Blood Sugar
Class 2:Diet and Exercise, January 18
Class 3:Diabetes Pills, Insulin, January 25
Preventing Complications (Part 1)
Class 4:Preventing Complications (Part 2) February 1

The Health Department also has a free support group for people with diabetes and their family or caretakers. The group meets the 2nd Thursday of each month from 9:30 – 11 AM at the Park DuValle Community Health Center at 3015 Wilson Avenue. Phone 574-6663 for more information.
