Sun Valley Community Center just got a lot nicer, thanks to improvements funded by Louisville Metro Government.
The popular Southwest Louisville community center now boasts expanded restrooms that will fully accommodate handicapped users for the first time, an improved exercise room, kitchen upgrades, better office space and storage areas, and a new ceiling and new lights in the main gathering area.
The $390,000 project was included in Mayor Jerry Abramson’s capital budget, with support from Metro Councilman Bob Henderson (D-14).
"I know that Sun Valley Community Center is a hub of activity in Southwest Louisville, for meetings, special events, dances and recreation programs," said Abramson. "By investing in improvements to this facility, we’re ensuring that residents in this area of our city have a community center that will continue to make them proud."
Before the renovation, the restrooms were inadequate during large events, and the kitchen’s configuration made it difficult to prepare and serve large amounts of food on site. Among other events, the facility hosts weddings and receptions.
"Sun Valley Community Center is where people of all ages have come to learn, have fun and exercise," said Henderson. "This work will make it easier for more in the community to come out and enjoy many programs and events that have become tradition for us but may benefit some new visitors as well."
Classrooms and activity areas in this Metro Parks facility were renovated in 2000.
