Public Health and Wellness Offers Free Diabetes Classes

The Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness will hold a series of two free classes for individuals interested in learning about and managing diabetes. Classes will be held Saturday May 12 and Saturday May 19 at the Department of Public Health and Wellness at 400 E. Gray Street. Classes are free and attendance at both classes is encouraged. Each class begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at noon. Class size is limited so please call to make a reservation. Phone 574-6663 for reservations or for more information. The class schedule is as follows:
May 12, Class 1, What is Diabetes? Monitoring and nutrition basics. What is a carbohydrate? Dealing with sick days and acute complications. Medications, carbohydrate counting and putting it into practice.
May 19, Class 2, Staying healthy and taking care of yourself. Carbohydrate counting, fats, sodium and label reading. Taking care of your feet. Weight loss and maintenance, exercise, and healthy coping.
