City Agency Has New Name:
Department of Community Services and Revitalization
Effective July 1, 2011 the Louisville Metro Department of Housing and Family Services became the Department of Community Services and Revitalization.
"This new name more closely reflects the department's mission to provide services for the entire community, and to work to revitalize all neighborhoods in Louisville," said Adria Johnson, Acting Director of the department. “It also allows our agency to better provide to the public our broad range of services and supports."
Many Louisville residents seek services through the department each month – many needing help with crisis prevention and emergency assistance. However, Community Services and Revitalization’s mission reaches beyond assisting with basic needs by offering services including financial literacy programs, educational and training opportunities, counseling services, asset building and development activities. With all of these, the goal is to improve the lives of individuals and help them reach self-sufficiency and help to bring about neighborhood revitalization.
Along with the new name, changes to the department structure are being made. All client based services -- including Neighborhood Place, Community Action Partnership, Self Sufficiency Services, Outreach and Advocacy and Home Repair Services -- will be led by the Executive Director under the Community Services division. All revitalization and affordable housing development activities, land use and development programs, will be led by Jeana Dunlap under the Community Revitalization division. Finally, a third arm -- Compliance and Administration - will be led by Laura Grabowski to help ensure transparent reporting is maintained and proper monitoring is conducted of all local, state and federal grants.
“The newly named Department of Community Services and Revitalization along with the Director's and staff's efforts to streamline services is evidence to me that the department is moving in the right direction”, said Mayor Greg Fischer. “Greater emphasis is being placed upon providing convenient access to programs and services and ensuring quality customer service, two key components of my Citizens Bill of Rights."
The Department of Community Services and Revitalization will hold an Open House for their many and varied partners to introduce the new structure and staff and provide information on their programs. The Open House is July 14th, 2011, 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Memorial Auditorium Ballroom, 970 South 4th Street.
