In advance of next week’s Senior PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club, Metro Parks is hosting two events open to the public on Monday.
From 5-7 p.m. Monday, the PGA of America will sponsor a youth golf clinic at Shawnee Golf Course, 460 Northwestern Parkway. All First Tee and Urban Golf Program participants are invited to attend, along with other members of the public. Trick show artist Dennis Walters will be performing. There will be free food and prizes and each youth that attends will receive a complementary gift bag from the PGA of America. Youth and parents will also have the opportunity to win tickets to the Senior PGA Championship practice rounds and tournament at the event.
"The PGA of America is a great community partner. Since the 1996 tournament that resulted in the development of an urban youth golf program, the PGA has continually strengthened our community. This new approach, beyond golf, will help us encourage a healthy, active lifestyle,” said Sadiqua Reynolds, chief of community building for Mayor Greg Fischer.
Although the event is free, youth and adults are asked to register at Shawnee Golf Course by calling 502/776-9389.
In addition, Fuzzy Zoeller will be participating in a golf exhibition at Long Run Golf Course from 4-6 p.m. Monday with trick shot artist and Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame member Buddy Demling. The exhibition will benefit the Long Run Junior Golf Program.
Zoeller, who resides in New Albany, is the winner of the 1979 Masters and 1984 US Open, as well as the 2002 Senior PGA Championship. The event is free and open to the public. In addition, at the event:
· Powerbilt Golf will be on hand to give away equipment through random drawings
· Tickets for 2011 Senior PGA will be given away through random drawings
· Other exciting giveaways to attendees
· Vendors will be set up with your favorite foods & beverages
