Louisville Water and Louisville Sports Commission Launch the Pure Tap 5K

Wednesday August 10, 2011

As part of its 15th anniversary celebration for Louisville Water Company’s “Pure Tap®” program, Louisville Water and the Louisville Sports Commission announced today the creation of a new 5K run branded the “Pure Tap® 5K" -- a family-friendly race.

The race is part of a re-charged campaign, developed by Louisville Water in 1996 to promote the quality, reliability and value of Louisville’s drinking water. The Pure Tap® program centers around a simple message - Louisville has a water supply so good and healthy that it deserves a name.

“Pure Tap® is what we deliver every day,” said Louisville Water President & CEO Greg Heitzman, “and we’re proud of the Pure Tap® program’s success, from its award-winning taste and environmental stewardship to its educational platform that teaches thousands of students about science and health. It’s only natural that we would want to extend the “Pure Tap®” brand to an exciting running event which connects our product to the community we serve.”

Louisville Water was the first water provider in the country to brand its water supply. The result was a campaign that has provided organizations with “Pure Tap®” containers (both filled and empty), created a vehicle to promote economic development and branched off to education and health partnerships. Today, over 800 organizations – including schools, churches, businesses, not-for-profits, festivals and more - have benefited from the “Pure Tap®” campaign.

“We’ve enjoyed a long term and successful partnership with Louisville Water as they have provided their quality product for so many of our sporting events and activities,” said Louisville Sports Commission Executive Director Karl Schmitt. “It just makes sense for us to come together to develop this new race that honors this brand as well as the Mayor’s charge to develop events that promote a healthy lifestyle.”

The Pure Tap® 5K will take place on Saturday morning, November 12, in conjunction with the Louisville Sports Commission’s new Half Marathon. “This new event will be a great partnership and a super addition to a healthier quality of life for our citizens,” said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. “We hope to make healthier Louisvillians as abundant as the great tasting water supply we have been able to count on for many years.”

Over 100 guests attended the “Pure Tap®” anniversary celebration held on August 10 at the historic Louisville Water Tower. Tours of the facility as well as educational information about the Water Company and its activities were on display.

As part of the 15th anniversary of the campaign, the Pure Tap® logo has an updated look and new delivery options, including “Pure Tap® to GO”, a fill station which allows water to be pulled directly from a water main, chilled and then placed into environmentally friendly containers at special events.
