With a new school year right around the corner, Councilwoman Mary C. Woolridge (D-3) is joining with the St. George Community Center to help students get ready for a new school year and at the same time help the communities live a healthier lifestyle.
“I am proud to help sponsor St. George’s Health and Fun Fair,” says Woolridge. “This is an opportunity to help children prepare for school and at the same time offer something very important to the community.”
The event will be held on Saturday, August 6th from 11:00am to 3:00pm at the St. George Community Center, 1205 South 26th Street.
Students will get free health screenings, information and have the chance to get a free back pack full of school supplies as part of the fair.
Parents and other family members will have the chance to take advantage of free health screenings which include stroke risk assessment, blood pressure screening, irregular pulse check, body fat analysis and chiropractic consultations. Twenty-five local agencies will also be on hand for the fair. There will be information on diabetes, dental and eye care, mental health and fitness training.
Woolridge joins Norton Healthcare, St. George’s Community Center and St. George’s Episcopal Church as a sponsor of the event.
There will be refreshments and free fun for the kids including face painting, the astro jump, a beanbag throw and basketball shoot. Demonstrations in Tai Chi and dance teams will also be a part of the fair.
“This is truly a community event with a purpose: making sure our children are ready for school and helping our families with some important health information,” says Woolridge. “I hope everyone will take advantage of this great service.”
