Metro Parks Seeking Entries for 4th Annual Dance Extravaganza
Monday January 28, 2008
After yet another successful event in March 2007, Metro Parks is hoping to make the 4nd Annual Youth Extravaganza Dance Competition bigger and better.
Schools, churches, community groups and studios are encouraged to register for the 2008 Youth Extravaganza, which takes place on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Iroquois Amphitheater. Those groups will join dance squads from Metro Parks community centers and will compete for trophies and city-wide bragging rights. The event encourages physical activity by celebrating all styles of dance, from basic jazz to hip-hop. A few Latino-themed dance groups have also signed up to enter the competition.
Last year’s event saw 16 different groups perform at the Amphitheater, which is located within Iroquois Park at 1080 Amphitheater Road, near New Cut Road and Kenwood Drive.
“In its fourth year, the Youth Extravaganza Dance Competition has become a great reflection of the diversity, talent and creativity our youth have to offer,” said Anthony Williams, recreation administrator for Metro Parks. “We’re hoping to build upon what we created last year and make it a true artistic showcase for our community.”
Registration comes at the minimal cost of $25 per team, and continues through Feb. 29, 2008. The event will be open to the public, although ticket prices have yet to be determined.
