Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center re-opens April 9
Friday April 7, 2006
Metro Parks officials expect Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center’s Olympic pool to re-open at noon on Sunday, April 9. The main pool has been closed since last weekend, after workers discovered a significant leak while completing routine repairs. Unless unforeseen problems arise, the facility will return to its normal operating schedule on Sunday.
"Our crews worked long hours, with the help of a contractor, to get the Olympic pool open again as quickly as possible,” said Jason Cissell, spokesman for Metro Parks. "We began refilling the pool at 3 a.m. on Thursday morning, and now we’re just waiting for the temperature to rise to a comfortable level. We really appreciate everyone’s patience as we worked to find and repair this leak." Customers are encouraged to call the aquatic center at (502) 897-9949 to confirm that the pool is open on Sunday.
Metro Parks drains the pools in the aquatic center twice annually to clean the pool lining and associated pumps. The pools are then refilled with fresh water. After filling the Olympic pool on Saturday, April 1, workers returned to the facility on Sunday to complete the process when they discovered the leak. The center's therapy pool and fitness center remained open while the main pool was repaired.
The Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center is located at 201 Reservoir Road in Crescent Hill Park. The facility features an Olympic pool that offers lap swimming, water exercise and swim lessons; a therapy pool; and a fitness center with Cybex, free weight and cardio equipment. Regular hours are Monday to Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Call (502) 897-9949 or visit www.metro-parks.org for information.
