LOUISVILLE – District 18 Councilwoman Julie Raque Adams is asking Louisville Metro residents to Luv, Pamper and Hug needy children next week.
Adams is participating in the Corporate Volunteer Council (CVC) 2003 Bare Necessities Diaper Drive, which is attempting to collect more than 150,000 diapers.
“With our help, CVC will be able to reach that goal,” Adams said. “We will be able to provide basic necessities to families in need.”
Adams has worked with Metro Government to place collection boxes at the following locations from March 10 to March 15:
City Hall, next to the elevators; Metro Hall, on the first and fourth floor of Metro Hall; and Metro Police at 701 W. Jefferson St. ad 810 Barret Ave.
The drive is requesting all sizes of diapers, but the pull-up size is especially needed.
The purpose of the drive is to help the more than 30 social organizations that provide assistance to families and children. For example, CVC reported that The Home of the Innocents used more than 120,000 diapers in 2002.
“As a newly elected official, I have had the pleasure of learning about the many local organizations and agencies that are truly making a difference in our community,” Adams said. “One organization in particular, the Corporate Volunteer Council (CVC), is helping to provide a much needed service to the youngest of Louisvillians – our children. As a mother of two small children, this effort is near and dear to my heart.”
CVC, which was formed with the help of Louisville’s Metro United Way, is a group of more than 40 local companies that promote volunteerism. Other collection boxes can be found at PNC Bank branches.
