Louisville – Can the Guardians of Childhood stop a world of total darkness and fear? The answer lies in “The Rise of the Guardians.” The 2012 DreamWorks animated film is part of the Summer of Free Movies at Iroquois Amphitheater on Saturday, August 24th.

“We are winding down our summer of free movies with a film the entire family will enjoy,” says Councilwoman Marianne Butler (D-15). “This year we have seen record crowds come out for these movies and other free events making the celebration of the Amphitheater’s 75th Anniversary one to remember.”

“Rise of the Guardians” tells the story of how Jack Frost is recruited by Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and the Sandman, all Guardians of Childhood, to stop Pitch Black from throwing the world’s children into darkness. It stars the voices of Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman and Jude Law.

The movie is free and begins at 8:30pm. The concession stand is open.

As part of the 75th Anniversary, the Metro Council helped sponsor a series of free events to highlight the Amphitheater’s celebration. The Council approved $22,750 in Neighborhood Development Funds last March for free community events at Iroquois Amphitheater.

Joining Butler as sponsor are Council members Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13), Dan Johnson (D-21) David Yates (D-25), Rick Blackwell (D-12), Mary C. Woolridge (D-3), David James (D-6), Tina Ward-Pugh (D-9), Cindi Fowler (D- 14), Kelly Downard (R- 16), Robin Engel (R-22), Stuart Benson (R-20), Brent Ackerson (D-26), Tom Owen (D-8) Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5). Jim King (D-10) and Attica Scott (D-1)

The 2013 Free Movies Under the Stars season will end next month on Sunday, September 15th with “Christmas Story 2”.
