Several members of Louisville’s Metro Council encourage the public to come out and learn more about Louisville Metro Police this Saturday, June 16th at Waterfront Park.
“We owe a great deal of thanks to the men and women who serve our city as police officers,” says Councilman David Tandy (D) 4. “This is a great opportunity for the public to come out and learn more about what they do and say thank you for their service.”
This Saturday the 2nd Annual Louisville Metro Police Foundation Celebration will get underway on the Waterfront with several events including the cycling Criterium, a Health and Safety Fair, a 5k Run/Walk and a food court.
“Too often we only see, police officers at the scene of a crime or an accident,” says Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D) 2. “This is a chance to talk to them one on one and find out how they feel about their work and the community”
The Celebration will begin at 12:00pm. Many of the events are free and open to the public. Registration is required for the Cycling Criterium and the 5K Run/Walk. The evening will conclude with a fireworks show beginning at 9:45pm.
“As we look at the Metro Government’s budget, public safety is our number one priority,” says Majority Leader Jim King (D) 10. “The men and women of Metro Police are one of the departments that fulfill that priority and this is a chance to not only say thanks but understand what they are doing to keep all of us safe.”
The Foundation has also indicated several branch of Metro Police will be on hand to talk with the public. Those divisions include, the Canine unit, the Dare Program, Mounted Patrol and the SWAT Truck.
“If you have ever wanted to know what all is involved in being a police officer in Louisville, this is your chance to find out,” says Councilman Bob Henderson (D) 14. “The best way to help police is to talk with them and when you do that it helps all of us.”
