Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) will welcome 30 members of the Human Development Steering Committee to the National League of Cities to Louisville for meetings on Friday, May 29th and Saturday, May 30th.
“I am honored to be a member of this committee and serve as hostess for this meeting,” says Welch. “I want to take the opportunity to show them our great city while they discuss some very important issues facing our country.”
When the Committee begins its work on Friday morning, members will receive a tour and presentation at the South Park TAPP School in District 13. Other items up for discussion during the weekend include “Teenage Pregnancy” along with “Workforce Development”, and “Veteran Re-entry to Society.”
“Each of these issues represents a challenge to cities all across the nation,” says Welch.
Local and national speakers are scheduled to address the attendees all day Friday and the morning Saturday until 11 am.
While here committee members will see a Louisville Bats game and spend Saturday afternoon as Welch’s guests on Millionaires Row at Historic Churchill Downs.
“Many of my colleagues on the committee have never been to Louisville,” says Welch. “This is a chance show how unique we are when compared to other cities across the nation.”
