Louisville – It is a program that finds work for area teenagers during the summer and helps develop their educational skills needed for the future. Next week, Project One Inc. will take time to honor the people who have helped the organization perform those goals.
Metro Council President Jim King (D-10) and four other community supporters will be recognized during Project One’s 28th Annual Awards of Excellence Banquet on Tuesday, December 10th.
“It is an honor to be recognized by such a dedicated group as Project One,” said President King. “Project One performs a great service to our community working with young people to offer them economic opportunity and educational skills. Its mission is an investment in the future of Metro Louisville.”
“President King understands that it is tough for a teenager to find a summer job. Teenagers need to gain work experience for the world of work. Also, teens need to earn money, money often needed desperately at home. Money that can make a difference between staying in school or dropping out,” said Dr. Charles King, President and CEO of Project One. “Even beyond the paycheck, these work experiences offer important lessons on time management, accountability, and effective communication with fellow employees and customers.”
During the summer of 2013 Project One, Inc. placed 281 students in meaningful summer jobs.
“Research shows that working during these years improves post-high school employability and earnings, for both college and non-college-bound graduates. Summer Jobs prepare teens for a smooth transition into adult responsibilities in the world of work. This is indeed the mission of Project One, Inc. and President King understands this mission and has been a supporter of Project One for many years. It's all about the kids,” said Dr. King.
Joining President King as honorees this year are:
· Mr. Randy Coe, President of Kosair Charities and The Louisville Rotary Club;
· Ms. Dawne Gee, WAVE 3 Anchor;
· Bishop Sylvester Williams, Presiding Bishop of Second Episcopal District, CME Church
· Mrs. Carmen Williams, First Lady of the Second Episcopal District.
The 28th Annual Awards of Excellence Banquet is an important fundraising event for Project One. The event proceeds will support The Alice Lucille Martin After-School University, The Community Scholars Program and the upcoming 2014 Summer Jobs Programs at Project One, Inc.
The Banquet will be held at the Crowne Plaza Airport beginning at 7:00pm.
