The first one was held in 1999 and for the years that followed the District 9 “Back to School Block Party” is a special way to start a new school year and have some fun.
“I look forward to this event every year and this tenth year will be fun,” said Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh (D-9). “This is a time for kids and families to enjoy themselves.”
The Back to School Block Party will be held from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center, 201 Reservoir Avenue on Friday , September 11th.
It will be a night of free swimming, pizza, cooks and prizes provided by District 9 businesses.
Children will have the chance to climb aboard a fire engine and meet with firefighters from Louisville Fire and Rescue. Parents will have a chance to meet with officers of Louisville Metro Police who will make a child ID kit for future identification.
“We have invited the LMPD as well as the Fire Department and will be taking a break during the evening for them to share a story or two about what they do as well as a moment of silence to remember our fallen professional and citizen heroes we lost on Sept. 11, 2001,” said Ward-Pugh
