As the West Market Street Corridor Project moves forward, the public will get another chance to review and comment on the design work now under consideration. It is the subject of an important public meeting set for Tuesday, October 19th.
“I want to make sure residents and business owners get another opportunity chance to see how this plan is coming along,” says Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5). “Now is the time for the public to review the actual design and let the consultants for this project know what they think about proposed changes.”
Gresham Smith and Partners are designing the new look for this area of West Market Street. Ultimately, this section will be redesigned with improvements for sidewalks, roadways, lighting, street furnishings and the additional of iconic elements from 24th street to Cecil Avenue.
Councilwoman Hamilton initiated the project and is working with Louisville Metro’s Economic Development Department. The design work follows a completed study and final report recommending the changes for the West Market Street Corridor.
“We need the involvement of residents and businesses in order to ensure these concepts are favorable to the people who live and work along West Market Street,” says Hamilton. “I want to encourage everyone to come out because it is anticipated that the design for the first phase of the project should be bid this fall.”
The meeting will be held in the auditorium of the Academy at Shawnee High School, 4018 W. Market St. beginning at 6:00pm. Please enter at Herman Avenue off 41st Street.
