Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation is encouraging families to put away those cell phones and electronic games–just for a while–and enjoy time together in the great outdoors through a new program: FOX – Families Outside X-ploring!
The first FOX event will be held from 9 a.m. to Noon, Saturday, February 16 at Waverly Park, which features a fishing lake, hiking trails, playground, and picnic areas.
Throughout the year, a trained naturalist will guide families on an exploration in different Metro parks, offering a chance to trek through forests, fields, lakes, ponds, and along the Ohio River. Children can play and experience nature just like their parents and grandparents once did – hiking, catching pond ‘critters’, searching for animal tracks, building forts, playing in leaves, and getting muddy!
The fee for FOX is $8 for a family of up to four members ($5 for each additional member) and pre-registration is required. Deadline to register is February 15.
For more information and to register, call: 502-368-5404. Bring water bottles and dress for the weather. Participants will be outside for the duration of the event.
