Ninth District Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh will join neighborhood children and local officials to dedicate the playground at the new Hopewell Park at 2 p.m. Saturday. The park is located at 509 North Birchwood Ave., north of Brownsboro Road, behind the Clifton Heights Baptist Church on Cleveland Boulevard.

The ribbon cutting caps a two-year project to bring a playground to the Clifton neighborhood. Councilwoman Ward-Pugh, then a Louisville alderwoman, pushed for inclusion of the then-called “tot lot” in the city’s 2002-2003 budget. The park’s new name – Hopewell – references the Hopewell Indian tribe that once settled on the property.

Clifton Heights Baptist Church will serve cake in the church, 2917 Cleveland Blvd., to help celebrate the occasion after the ribbon cutting.
