Portland residents have a chance to make a difference in revitalizing their neighborhood but first they have to let local officials know what is needed for change.
“There is a very special public hearing coming up that I want to encourage the people of Portland to turn out for,” says Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5). “This is an important hearing for all of us to shape the priorities and activities in funding for the next five years.”
As part of the Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Are plan, a public hearing will get underway on Monday, April 19th at Neighborhood House, 201 North 25th Street. The hearing will begin at 6:00pm and last until 8:00pm.
The NRSA is part of a Consolidated Plan required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The program will receive entitlement grant funds to help communities revitalize neighborhoods and improve conditions for economic development. The NRSA will also strive for better housing, decreased homelessness and stronger communities.
“Millions of dollars are available to Louisville Metro and other cities to revitalize areas like Portland,” says Hamilton. “But we need to hear from residents on priorities for things such as housing and economic development.”
The hearing is sponsored by Metro Housing and Family Services.
