Councilman David Tandy is issuing an invitation to residents of District 4 and the California neighborhood for a very special and traditional event: the Willie B. Bright Barbeque.
“This event has a significant meaning for me because it serves as a reminder that every community should come together from time to time to relax and have some fun and fellowship,” says Tandy. “That was Councilman Bright’s goal when he began this barbeque.”
The event will be held on Saturday, October 16th in Victory Park, off Garland between 22nd and 23rd Streets. It will begin at 12:00pm. It is free and open to residents of the area. There will also be a free concert featuring the Unlimited Show Band beginning at 2:00pm. In addition to good food and free concert the California Neighborhood is also sponsoring a Yard Sale followed by a Movie In the Park sponsored by Louisville Crime Vision.
Willie B. Bright was a businessman and community activist prior to his being first elected District 4 Councilman in 2002. Mr. Bright passed away in 2004. After he became a member of the Metro Council, Tandy continued the tradition.
“Willie Bright loved this community and believed that elected officials should do more than just be available to the people they serve,” says Tandy. “I also believe the community needs to know that we care about their concerns and want to enjoy good times together.”
