Neighborhood Place Partners Offer Back to School Events in August





Neighborhood Place locations across Jefferson County are proud to help sponsor numerous Back to School events this summer. More than 5,000 students will be assisted with backpacks, school supplies and other valuable resources to help them prepare for the start of a new school year. Also offered this month is a free educational baby shower for expectant mothers, and a teen violence prevention meeting open to youth between 12 and 17 years old. Aug. 2, Back to School Bash at Meyzeek Middle School, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Located at 828 S. Jackson St. Call 485-8115 for more information.
Free school supplies and backpacks (while supplies last), door prizes, several academic, health and community resource vendors as well as the Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) mobile registration bus. Sponsored by 810 Barret Neighborhood Place, Meyzeek Youth Services and Community School, New Directions Housing Corporation, and other community partners.


Aug. 3, Back to School Bash at Farnsley Middle School, 9 – 11 a.m.
Located at 3400 Lees Lane. Call 485-6810 for more information.
Free school supplies and valuable community resources, plus door prizes and inflatables for kids. Children must be present to receive the free school supplies. Sponsored by Shively Area Ministries in partnership with Cane Run Neighborhood Place, area schools and Kosair Charities.


Aug. 8, Northwest Neighborhood Place Back to School Fair, 2 – 4 p.m.

NorthWest Neighborhood Place presents a “Safe and Healthy Return to School” community fair which will provide free school supplies and giveaways, an array of academic and community vendor resources as well as on-site JCPS mobile student registrations. All students must be accompanied by a parent. Sponsored in collaboration with Jefferson County Public Schools, the Kidz Club and Service for Peace.


Aug.10, First Neighborhood Place Back to School Fest 2013, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Located at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, 1501 Rangeland Rd. Call 962-3175 or 962-3160 for more information. Enjoy this community resource fair with free school supplies, sports physicals for $20 (cash only), and lots of music and fun. Sponsored by First Neighborhood Place, the JCPS Youth Service Center and Louisville Metro Council Members.


Aug. 12, PACT in Action Teen Dating Violence Prevention Efforts with Bridges of Hope Neighborhood Place.
Located at 1411 Algonquin Pkwy., 4-6 p.m. For more information, call or text 438-TEEN (8336). PACT in Action, developed for teens by teens, aims to mobilize youth in the 40210 zip code to reduce the incidence of domestic violence by 10 percent by the year 2020. Boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 17 are invited to attend the upcoming Youth Advisory Board Meeting in August.


Aug. 16, Back to School Blast at Bridges of Hope Neighborhood Place, 9 a.m. - noon
Located at 1411 Algonquin Pkwy. Call 634-6050 for more information.
Area children, accompanied by a parent or guardian, are invited to visit vendors where they will receive helpful information on health, education, Neighborhood Place resources and other community resources. Participants will receive a card which will be stamped at each station, which can be redeemed for a backpack full of school supplies once completed. There will be music and firetrucks, and other fun in store for all! Sponsored by Bridges of Hope Neighborhood Place, JCPS, PACT in Action, and other community partners.


Aug. 20, A Healthy Journey for Two Educational Baby Shower at First Neighborhood Place, 2- 4 p.m.
Located Thomas Jefferson Middle School Campus, 1501 Rangeland Rd. Call 439-4591 (or jengle@sevencounties.org) to RSVP and for more information. Seven Counties and KIDSNow will be hosting this educational baby shower to share information on how to care for yourself and your baby while being pregnant. Participants will receive a baby tote bag filled with goodies and a gas/gift card.


About Neighborhood Place
In November 2013, Neighborhood Place will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the opening of its first site – First Neighborhood Place at 1503 Rangeland Road – which served as a pilot multi-service center to increase access to services. Today, eight Neighborhood Place locations, along with two satellite sites, provide one-stop centers bringing together Louisville Metro Government (including Community Services and Revitalization and Public Health and Wellness), Jefferson County Public Schools, Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services and Seven Counties.
