Though Repair Affair is an event that shows how volunteers extend a helping hand to someone who may not be able to do a needed repair around the house, the 2011 Women4Women Repair Affair team will begin early Saturday, June 11th with Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh (D-9) and more than 30 volunteers.
“Six weeks ago, I stumbled onto knowing that The Center needed two floors of their facility painted,” says Ward-Pugh. “I asked New Directions if our Women4Women Repair Affair Team could be the answer. They said, yes.”
The 2011 W4W Repair Affair kicks off Saturday at 7:30am with a continental breakfast at the Center for Women and Families with lunch also provided by New Directions. In her 13th year as Honorary Chair for the W4W Repair Affair Team, the Councilwoman will lead volunteers to paint the walls, doors and hand rails for 2 floors at The Center.
“This is a chance for those of us with these type skills to put a fresh coat of donated Porter Paint on the walls where some 240+ women and children call home,” says Ward-Pugh. “We are proud that this is the 35th “home” that W4W has painted over the 13 years and we intend to keep painting as long as New Directions has a need and we are able.”
