Mayor Abramson to Discuss Bridges Project With New Transportation Secretary
Monday March 23, 2009
Mayor Jerry Abramson will be in Washington D.C. on Monday, meeting with U.S. Transportation Secretary Roy LaHood about the nation’s transportation needs.
Abramson also will brief LaHood about the Ohio River Bridges Project and transportation needs in Louisville. He is one of 10 mayors invited by LaHood to discuss the federal surface transportation bill that will soon come before Congress.
“The Federal Highway Administration approved the bridges project five years ago, and much of the pre-construction work is done but funding remains a major issue,” Abramson said. “This project impacts national commerce — the movement of goods across the country — and that’s the message I’ll take to the Secretary.”
The bridges project is estimated create more than 56,000 construction and jobs and it will help build a stronger economy throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana, Abramson said.
The meeting is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the U.S. Department of Transportation.
