Louisville – In an effort to help parents get children ready for school, Councilman David James (D-6) and the 1st Gethsemane Center for Family Development are sponsoring the 2013 Health Fair and Back to School Supplies Giveaway for needy families in the community.
“It is important that our children begin the school year with the tools they need to learn with supplies and a healthy attitude,” says James. “The entire family will be able to take advantage of the Health Fair which offers information to lead a healthier lifestyle and will help families grow.”
The 18th Annual Health Fair and Back to School Supplies Giveaway is set for Saturday, August 10th at the 1st Gethsemane Center, 1221 First Gethsemane Avenue from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.
The Health Fair will be held in the Church’s gym. Among the groups on hand to provide health information and screenings: Park DuValle Community Health Center, the Metro Public Health and Wellness Department, University of Louisville Pediatric Eye Care and a host of other services.
The American Red Cross will conduct a mobile blood drive during the event.
In 2012, the Back to School Supplies Giveaway was able to help with the needs of 5100 children. Organizers expect there will just as many children in need this year. The supplies will be given out on a first come first serve basis.
“I hope those in need of help in the community will come out and take advantage of this great way to start a new school year,” says James.
Parents must be with their children in order to participate in both events.
