When the 2nd Division of Louisville Metro Police hosts National Night Out, officers will have support from Council Members Judith Green (D-1) and Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5) and other community organizations to provide a variety of information from health screenings to voter registration.
“This year, Metro Police have put together a wonderful program of information for everyone to fight crime and protecting themselves,” says Green.
National Night Out will take place at the LMPD 2nd Division at 3419 Bohne Avenue from 6:00pm to 9:00pm on Tuesday, August 5th,
“In the Shawnee Neighborhood, we have made great strides in fighting crime in our neighborhoods,” says Hamilton. “Metro Police officers have been right there with us and they are ready to help other neighborhoods.”
Metro Police will have information on domestic violence, youth substance abuse, identity theft, fraud, crimes against seniors and home security information.
Fire prevention and safety information will be available through Louisville Fire and Rescue.
“National Night Out has become a community tradition and in keeping with that tradition we have invited the Park Duvalle Health Center to do free screenings for blood pressure and cholesterol,” say Green. “Representatives of the Youth Development Agency will offer information about jobs and job training and the Louisville Urban League and Urban League Young Professionals will be available to provide information on housing, and registering one and all to vote.”
Meanwhile, residents of Portland will have also been invited to a National Night Out Event hosted by the Metro Police 1st Division at Portland Park at the corner of 27th and Northwestern Parkway. The celebration gets underway from 6:30 pm to 8:00pm.
Officers of the 1st Division will host a cook out and provide information on crime prevention.
“This is a chance to meet the people who keep us safe,” says Hamilton. “But it is also an opportunity to get other valuable information to help you and your family.”
