Councilwoman Madonna Flood (D) 24 is calling for volunteers to rally on Saturday, May 17th when this year’s Okolona Spring Clean-up gets underway.

“Every year we have many Okolona groups turn out to help us and I look forward to another good showing of people,” says Flood. “District 24 will again offer a cash prize to the group that can turn out the most volunteers.”

The Clean-up begins at 10:00am. Volunteers and their groups should meet in the parking lot of Southern High School. Groups and teams will be picking up trash and debris along Okolona’s streets and parks.

All non profit groups that are 501-C3 organizations will have a chance at winning cash prizes. This year, along with awarding $750 for first place, $500 for second and $300 for third, local Okolona 501-C3 groups that pre-register with Councilwoman’s Flood office and bring 25 volunteers, they will be awarded $200.

Groups wishing to qualify for prizes must pre-register at 574-1124 or be at Southern High School by 9:30 a.m. on May 17th to register. All members of the group must sign-in on clean-up day to be counted toward the total.

“I was very impressed with the churches, youth sports groups and others who came out to help us,” says Flood.

At noon, join all the groups and Councilwoman Madonna Flood for a cook-out at Southern High School to celebrate our efforts to make Okolona clean.

Special thanks to Louisville Metro, Brightside, Meijer, Waste Management, MSD, State Highway Department, White Castle and the Okolona Business and Professional Association.

In the event of rain; the Cleanup will be scheduled on Sunday May 18th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm
