With the fall colors changing, Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) is encouraging everyone to come out and take part in the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Hike this Saturday, October 17th in the Jefferson Memorial Forest.

“This is a beautiful time of the year to come out and see one of the great treasures of Metro Louisville,” says Welch. “I welcome the Mayor and everyone who comes out to take part in a healthy way to enjoy the fall.”

Welch will be on hand to greet hikers when the event kicks off at 10:00am and last until 2:00pm. Five of the Forest’s 13 trails will be featured and there will be options for hikers who may be beginners or those who enjoy rugged terrain.

“You can find a trail for children, there is even a trail suitable for parents or families that wish to push a stroller,” says Welch. “We have trails as short as one fifth of a mile or as long as five miles.”

The Jefferson Memorial’s Education Center will be open for tours and there will be fun and entertainment for those who decide to come out and enjoy a walk on Saturday.

“Anytime we can get people moving and thinking about exercise is good for all of us as a community,” says Welch. “And the great thing here is the beauty you will see while working towards good health.”
