Councilwoman Shanklin invites residents to come out and enjoy Newburg Community Day

Louisville – For more than 50 years the community of Newburg has held a special homecoming as a way of celebrating unity and pride as one of Louisville’s best Neighborhoods.

. This coming weekend, the celebration will continue when “Newburg Community Days” gets underway on Friday, August 16th, Saturday, August 17th and Sunday, August 18th.

“The community looks forward to this festival every year and I want to encourage everyone to come out and join us as we take pride in our community,” says Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D-2).

“Newburg Community Days” kicks off on Friday with rides and music in Petersburg/Newburg Park. Then on Saturday, there is a Community Breakfast in the park.

Basketball and softball tournaments are planned for the weekend. The Festival is noted for its traditional parade which begins at 12:00pm and continues through out many local streets in the Newburg area. This year’s featured group the Derby City Drum Corps.

There will be children’s activities which include face painting and other fun events.

Then on Sunday, a gospel festival will highlight the last day of the event.

Rides & Music in Petersburg Park 6:00pm – 10:30pm


Community Breakfast 8:30 am– 10:00 am (in the park)

Parade- 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm (throughout the neighborhood)

Basketball Tournament - 8:00 am– (all day)

Softball Tournament (TBA)

Unlimited Band Performance- 6:00 pm - Closing

Senior Citizens Activities begin at 2:00pm


Gospel Festival featuring the Solomoners and the Golden Crowns 5:00 pm

Continuation of Basketball / Softball Tournament (TBA)

As was the case in 2012, Louisville Metro Parks is coordinating all events. There are also many community volunteers who will come out to help with various activities.

“Newburg welcomes everyone to come out and have fun and especially those folks who use to be our neighbors and friends,” says Shanklin. “We hope everyone will enjoy themselves.”
