Efforts Contribute to Cleaner Air for Louisville
LOUISVILLE (April 16, 2008) – At its regular monthly meeting today, the Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control Board honored YouthBuild Louisville’s E-Corps for its tree planting efforts.
YouthBuild Louisville is a private, nonprofit organization that has been helping young people reach their potential since 2001.
The E-Corps program provides work experience and skills that support conservation, rehabilitation, and the enhancement of natural, historic, environmental, and recreational resources.
Through extensive hands-on involvement in a wide variety of community partnerships, public interactions, and environmental education, young adults enrolled in E-Corps learn about ecological and recreation uses issues on public open space lands, and in turn, build skills in ecological restoration, horticulture, and other topics related to conservation and public land management.
The student members also receive formal education assistance toward attainment of their GED and college entrance preparation.
The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District became aware of YouthBuild’s efforts through the Community of Trees project.
That project is a public/private partnership dedicated to increase the amount of air-cleaning trees in Louisville’s urban sector.
