Women in District 13 can follow through on a possible New Year’s resolution to be healthier by taking advantage of a Breast Cancer Screening and Woman’s Health Fair sponsored by Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13).
"If you made up your mind in 2009 to live a healthier lifestyle, then this event is for you," says Welch, who is also a professional nurse. "This is a chance to fight a disease that has devastated the lives of so many women.”
The Breast Cancer Screening Clinic will be held at the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church, 903 Fairdale Road from 8:30 am to 3:30pm. The University of Louisville Hospital and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center will conduct Mammograms for women age 40 and older.
There is no cost to program eligible women without insurance. Insurance will be filed for women with coverage. Appointments are required for the screening. Contact Phyllis Bacigalupi at 762-1410 to make an appointment.
This event will also feature additional health screenings for women by Norton Healthcare such as: blood sugar, blood pressure and bone density. Passport Health Plan and Passport Advantage will be on hand for information on KCHIP and their Medicare Advantage programs.
"This is a chance to help anyone fulfill that New Year's Resolution to be healthier," says Welch, “Preventative screening is so important.".
Welch is partnering in the screenings with the Metro Louisville Department of Health and Public Wellness, The Kentucky Cancer Program and the Louisville Jefferson County Partnership in Cancer Control.
