Louisville – The first of its kind in District 1grassroots evening of performances and visuals will get under way this Labor Day weekend when the Parkland Rising Outdoor Open Mic Night brings local artists to the Parkland area.

“This will be a unique experience for a community that continues to show strength and unity of purpose,” says Councilwoman Attica Scott (D-1). “The call is going out to performance and visual artists who would like to express their thoughts, ideas and talents.”

The event will get underway on Sunday night, September 1st from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at 3200 Greenwood Avenue. It will be held next to the “Parkland Rising” public art site which was unveiled this summer.

The event was created by Ramona Dallum Lindsey, the local artist who transformed a vacant two story apartment building into “Parkland Rising” an inspirational work of urban art on Greenwood Avenue.

“Parkland Rising” is a P.A.I.N.T. Project (Producing Art in Neighborhoods Together) sponsored by the Center for Neighborhoods which is funded by a Metro Government external agency grant.

“Open Mic” will offer participating artists five minutes to share their talent. The artists can use the spoken word, song, music, dance, painting or drawing with the goal of using their talent to inspire the community. The only requirement is to make sure the performance is positive, fresh and clean.

“There are many talented people in and around the Parkland area and it is time to let everyone know that these positive creative people live and work among us,” says Scott.

All performances will take place in a parking lot and there is no electricity. So those who need music to perform, should bring battery powered electronics or a musician to accompany them. Visual Artists will be able to do their thing during the entire evening. Everyone should bring a lawn chair.

Performers and artists can sign up for the event by going to:
