Louisville Water Company Receives National Honors
The American Water Works Association has recognized Louisville Water Company’s (LWC) efforts to protect ground water supplies. At the Association’s annual meeting in San Diego this week, LWC received the Exemplary Source Water Protection award for large cities. LWC developed a plan to protect the ground water supplies near the B.E. Payne Treatment Plant in Prospect as part of the company’s Riverbank Filtration program. Riverbank Filtration uses the earth as a natural filter to draw water from the aquifer next to the Ohio River. LWC is currently expanding the program by constructing a mile-and-a-half tunnel and well system at the Payne Plant.
LWC was also honored for 100 years of service with the American Water Works Association. The group works to advance safe drinking water efforts around the world.
