Louisville – Councilman David Tandy (D) 4 will join over 200 volunteers on Monday, January 15th as part of Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
“Dr. King’s message of social justice and equality is just one of his many messages to build a stronger community,” says Tandy. “This Day of Service is a way to show how we as a community can help others.”
The volunteers, most of whom are employees of area Target stores, will spend the day making improvements to the Baxter Community Center at 1125 Cedar Court.
Paint will be supplied by the Metro Housing Authority and other building materials will be provided by Target. The bulk of the labor will come from Metro Parks and Target employees.
“We are indeed thankful that some who could take a holiday in honor of Dr. King have chosen to work for their community,” says Tandy. “Target and all its volunteers deserve our thanks.”
The first wave of prep volunteers is set for about 5:00am on Monday. The bulk of the volunteers are expected around 8:30am. The project will end with a luncheon at 1:00pm.
